A total of 12 traffic policemen, including a state department head, was brought to the Magistrate’s Court here on suspected bribery.
The suspects were brought by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers to be remanded for further investigations.
They were nabbed in an MACC swoop in different locations on the island and mainland on Tuesday (March 10).
They are suspected to have taken thousands of ringgit in bribes to prevent action on overloaded lorries.
Last year, MACC arrested more than 70 Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers, who were believed to have collected bribes of between RM10,000 and RM36,000 each month not to take action against overloaded lorries.
