Ex-Weslaco Commissioner Admits To Perjury In Wider Bribery Scandal

A third former Weslaco city commissioner is facing prison time after pleading guilty to a crime related to the widespread bribery scheme surrounding the rebuild of the city’s water treatment plant.

David Fox has admitted he lied under oath when he told a grand jury last year that he never received any money or benefit in exchange for a vote.

Fox later acknowledged he was paid at least $2,000 to influence his votes on awarding contracts for the water plant project. Fox, who was a Weslaco city commissioner from 2012 through 2015, could get up to 5 years in prison when he’s sentenced in January.

Two other former city commissioners, John Cuellar and Gerardo Tafolla, have admitted to their roles in the political corruption scandal and will also be sentenced early next year.
